When Iraq was at the height of its stability and economic stature in the '70s, Muslims revered the nation as the cosmopolitan center of the Arab world. However, after enduring seemingly constant war and conflict over the past 30 years, this emblem feels like a fading memory to its people.
With unprecedented population growth and continued economic instability, a window of opportunity has opened for the existing Jesus followers in Iraq to heal their fractured nation through the shalom of God found only in the Prince of Peace. Mosul, the capital of Ninawa governorate, is Iraq's second-largest city.
The population has traditionally consisted of Kurds and a significant minority of Christian Arabs. After much ethnic conflict, in June 2014, the city fell to the ISIL. In 2017, Iraqi and Kurdish forces finally pushed out the Sunni insurgents. Since then, efforts have been in place to restore the war-torn region.
