Haridwar en Rishikesh, Uttarakhand
What good news does Jesus offer to people who are looking for a new beginning?
Nestled between the Himalayan foothills and the wide plains of northern India, Haridwar and Rishikesh sit beside the fast-flowing Ganges River. In Rishikesh, the river tumbles past green hills and suspension bridges; by Haridwar, it begins to spread into the plains. Millions of Hindu pilgrims visit this region to bathe in the Ganges and seek spiritual help. Yet these cities are also full of everyday life. As we learn about this place, we can pray that people searching for hope will have opportunities to encounter Jesus’ love.
For ages 6–8: Spot it: can you find a long suspension bridge, a flock of birds flying, tiny kayaks, rice gardens, and a rafting boat?
For ages 9–12: The Ganges begins high in the mountains. Look closely: what details show that this river is still close to the Himalayas?

Lord, may the communities of Garhwali and other unreached communities in Uttarakhand encounter you. May they come to you thirsty and you fill them fully with your spirit. Give protection and courage for Christians here as they face persecution and separation. Send more laborers that would share your good news and love with those who desperately need them. May they have eyes to see and ears to hear. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pray for the communities to encounter Jesus in a special way. Pray for the Holy Spirit to prepare their hearts and minds and when they hear they would be saved.
Pray that as Hindu families worship their eyes would be open to the emptiness of false religion. And pray they would then discover the true Light of the World, Jesus.
Pray for protection, courage, and wisdom for pastors, evangelists, and believers facing persecution. Pray that God would make them courageous and strong, and pray they would not fear.
Pray that children would know they are special, unique and loved by Jesus. Pray even they can share the love of Jesus with others.
Pray for Christian families and churches to have courage and wisdom, and for people in remote communities to have a chance to hear about Jesus. Uttarakhand has laws regulating religious conversion, and recent proposals have sought to make penalties stricter.
