Situated on the banks of the Ganges River, Varanasi (also known as Kashi or Banaras in Uttar Pradesh state) is one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities and the spiritual heart of Hinduism. Millions of pilgrims visit each year to bathe in the sacred Ganges, perform religious rituals, and seek freedom from the cycle of rebirth. The city's ghats, temples, and cremation sites reflect a deep spiritual hunger.

Eastern Uttar Pradesh is home to one of the highest concentrations of Unreached People Groups (UPGs) in India. Among them are the Bhojpuri ihmiset, Mallah (boatmen), Dom community, Julaha (weavers), and numerous Dalit communities. Many have little or no access to the Gospel in their own language and culture.

As a major religious and cultural center, Varanasi influences millions across North India. During Diwali, thousands of lamps illuminate the riverbanks as families pray for prosperity, blessing, and new beginnings. This makes it a strategic time to pray that those seeking spiritual light will encounter Jesus Christ, the true Light of the World. Although the church is growing, believers often face social rejection, harassment, and increasing pressure under Uttar Pradesh's anti-conversion laws.

Pray that during Diwali, many searching for hope and blessing will discover the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
