Através das cidades lotadas

Varanasi

Descubra a cidade

Reflexão Principal de Hoje

The city has long rows of stone steps called ghats leading down to the water. These steps are places where people pray, bathe, meet friends, work, and welcome visitors.

Meet Varanasi

Varanasi is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities and the spiritual heart of Hinduism. Millions of pilgrims visit each year to bathe in the sacred Ganges river, and perform other spiritual rituals or seek freedom from the cycle of rebirth. The city’s ghats (giant steps by the river), temples, and cremation sites reflect the deep spiritual darkness they live in. This area is home to one of the largest Unreached People Groups in India. They have little or no access to the Gospel in their own language and culture. Although the church is growing, believers often face social rejection, harassment, and increasing pressure under Uttar Pradesh’s anti-conversion laws.

Cadê?
Varanasi is in Uttar Pradesh, in northern India.
Paisagem
The city is in the broad, flat Ganges River plain, rather than in the mountains or beside the sea.
Por que tantas pessoas visitam?
It is considered the holiest city in Hinduism and that the Ganges River there can cleanse sins and bring spiritual liberation. Pilgrims come to bathe in the sacred water, perform rituals at the ghats, attend the Ganga Aarti fire ceremony, and immerse the ashes of loved ones.
Vida cotidiana
Buying and selling goods in crowded markets. Weaving and selling colorful Banarasi silk. Travelling by boat or walking through narrow streets. Meeting family and friends beside the river. Pilgrims visiting temples and taking part in religious ceremonies.

Para crianças de 6 a 8 anos: Spot it: can you find a boat full of people, cows, goats, and people gathered on the steps?

Para crianças de 9 a 12 anos: How would you show kindness to someone in Varanasi who feels alone or is searching for answers about life?

Psalm 42:1-2

Lord, many here do not know you. They don’t even have the opportunity to read your word for themselves in their language. May people work to translate your word into their language. May it pierce their hearts and souls, cutting them and removing away all that is dead there. In its place, give them new hearts and new lives that follow and love you. Give them your Spirit and bring freedom to these people who light lamps for freedom but are trapped in darkness. Thank you for loving them like you love me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  • UPGs in Eastern Uttar Pradesh

Pray for this large Unreached People Group. Pray the Bible would quickly be translated into their language. Pray that God would send people here to share the gospel and reach these people.

  • Courage, Protection, and Wisdom

Pray that as Pastors, Evangelists, and believers serve in the area they would have the courage and protection of Jesus on their side as they face opposition and persecution. God would give them strength to endure.

  • UPG - Veil would be lifted

Pray that the veil that covers their eyes from the truth would be lifted. It would cause them to seek and encounter the truth of Jesus Christ.

  • Diwali

Pray that the people participating in Diwali would seek God and find Him when they seek Him with all their hearts. May they find the hope and blessing they are seeking.

Continue orando

Pray for Christian families and churches to grow. May the laws be loosened so the gospel could spread unhindered, and if not, may God protect believers from persecution so that all might hear and know and be saved.

Desafio do Explorador

Be a Light

In Varanasi, people gather beside the Ganges and light small lamps called diyas. During the ceremonies, at night, the light reflects off the water.

If you could share Jesus’ light with someone in Varanasi, what would you pray for them? Color the candle to remind yourself that you are a light. A city on a hill that cannot be hidden.
