Similarly, yoga's mainstream popularity in Western fitness and wellness culture reflects a parallel normalization of Hindu-rooted spiritual practice that is carried forth by the diaspora. Within the diaspora, Gujaratis are especially prominent, historically emigrating as entrepreneurs, motel owners, and professionals, building strong transnational business networks. Estimated to make up around 33% of the worldwide Indian diaspora, they are present in 129 of the 190 UN-recognized sovereign nations, likely numbering in the 6-10 million range.

As the Hindu diaspora continues to grow worldwide, Hindu religious celebrations such as Diwali gain broader public recognition. Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights marking the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil (often tied to Rama redeeming Sita and bringing her home). During Diwali, Hindus light oil lamps (diyas) and candles, and offer prayers to deities such as Lakshmi and Ganesh, often accompanied by fireworks and festive gatherings.
