Di antara Desa-desa Pedesaan

Patna dan Kolkata

Discover the City

Today’s Big Thought

God sees us even when it feels like we are unseen. God feels what we feel, and is a friend closer than a brother to us. He hears us when we cry or are happy! He is present with us in every moment!

Meet Patna and Kolkata

Today, we turn our hearts toward Patna and Kolkata. Patna is the capital of Bihar, one of India’s poorest states. Many families there do not have enough money, jobs, or opportunities. Some people move from villages to the city hoping to find work and build a better life. Kolkata is the capital of West Bengal. It is famous for its art, music, books, history, and schools. But many people in the city still live in crowded places and face difficult challenges.

In both cities, some vulnerable people are tricked or forced into unsafe situations. Some communities also experience unfair treatment because of the caste they were born into. This can make it harder for them to go to do many things or even to be accepted by others. No one should be treated as less important because of their family or background. We are all made in the image of God and are unique and specially loved.

Behind the busy streets and huge populations of Patna and Kolkata are millions of people who are loved by God. Each person has hopes, faces struggles, and deserves to be treated with dignity, fairness, and love.

For ages 6–8: Spot it: can you find two roses, a bushel of onions, and a guy riding a motorbike? How many yellow taxis can you count?

For ages 9–12: If you were to visit here, how would you help people feel valued and included?

Pray, Remember, Respond

Ayat Hafalan

“You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”

Genesis 16:13

What does it mean? God invites us to pray with hope for people everywhere.
Try it: tap one important word to circle it. Then draw a tiny picture on paper to help you remember it.

Dear God, today I want to pray for…

Lord, as people are trapped in poverty and search for hope, be the hope and bring the resources they need. Bring Christians who can share with them not only Jesus but can meet their physical needs, too. Thank you for being a God who sees, and meets us where we are. Thank you for Jesus who is who we need to be lifted out of the conditions we fall into separate from you. Begin to change the ways people live bringing them to a new hope and life abundantly in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pokok-pokok Doa

Tap each prayer star after you pray.

  • Governments and Authorities

Pray for the governments and those in authority that they would do what is good, act justly, and put away their corruption. Pray they would love mercy, and come to know God.

  • Seen and Known

Pray that the people of Patna and Kolkata would begin to see and understand their worth in the eyes of God. Pray they would understand that God made them in His image and made each one of them with a plan and purpose.

  • Vulnerable & Poor

Pray for the vulnerable and poor people in Patna and Kolkata. Pray they would be rescued from trafficking, and protected by the one who sees them in their needs. Pray that they would no longer be marginalized or cast aside.

  • Strength and Witnesses

Pray that the people would find relief from their hardships and strength in God. Pray those who have enough would share what Jesus freely shares with them.

Continue praying

Pray for followers of Jesus to be witnesses. Pray they would not be afraid to reach out to love those around them and share the good news of Jesus with others. Pray that workers would multiply and they would begin to bring in the harvest. That these towns would be a house of prayer for the nations.

What would you ask God to do in this city?

Howrah Bridge

Connects Kolkata and Howrah across the Hooghly River and carries thousands of vehicles and pedestrians each day. It is also famous for being built without a single nut or bolt; its steel parts were joined with rivets.

How can you help build bridges between people who are treated unfairly or left out?

Your prayer is saved on this device, so it will still be here when you come back. Nobody else can see it unless a grown-up helps you share it.
