I live in Kermanshah, a city in the mountains of western Iran near the border of Iraq. Our land is rugged and beautiful, shaped by the Zagros Mountains and centuries of history. Many of the people here are Kurdish, proud of our language, traditions, and deep sense of identity. Ancient carvings like the famous rock reliefs of Taq-e Bostan stand as reminders that this region has been a crossroads of empires for thousands of years.

Life here has never been easy. In 2017, a powerful earthquake devastated communities across this region, leaving thousands dead and many families still rebuilding their lives years later. Even today, some neighborhoods carry the scars of that disaster. Poverty and unemployment remain difficult realities for many in the province.

Now the tension of the wider conflict in Iran has added new uncertainty. Because Kermanshah sits close to the Iraqi border and near important military and logistics routes, the region has long been sensitive during times of war. Military activity and air defense systems around the province have increased as the conflict continues, reminding many residents of past wars fought across these same mountains.

Despite all of this, life goes on. Markets open in the mornings, tea houses fill with conversation, and families gather in the evenings beneath the mountain skyline. Yet beneath the routines, many hearts carry quiet questions about the future.

For followers of Jesus in Kermanshah, faith is often lived quietly. Small groups meet in homes, praying together and encouraging one another. Even in a region shaped by hardship and tension, God is still at work. I believe these mountains that have seen so much struggle may one day witness something new — a spiritual awakening that brings healing and hope to many people.
