ISFAHAN

IRAN
Go Back

I live in Isfahan — a city long known for its beauty. People here often say “Isfahan is half the world,” because of its magnificent mosques, tiled domes, and the grand Imam Square at the heart of the city. Bridges stretch across the Zayandeh Rood River, and for centuries this place has been a center of Persian art, architecture, and learning.

But today the river that once defined our city often runs dry. Farmers from the surrounding region have protested repeatedly over water shortages and the loss of their historic water rights from the Zayandeh Rood. Some demonstrations have brought tractors into the streets and drawn heavy responses from security forces.

The wider crisis facing Iran has also reached our city. The current war has brought airstrikes to several major Iranian cities, including Isfahan, where military and strategic facilities have been targeted as part of the broader conflict. The sounds of explosions and the presence of security forces have become part of life, even near places that once drew visitors from around the world.

Yet everyday life continues. Merchants still open their stalls in the bazaar, students cross the bridges on their way to university, and families gather in the evening squares. Beneath the beauty of this ancient city lies a deep longing — for stability, justice, and hope.

For followers of Jesus in Isfahan, faith is often quiet. Believers meet in homes, pray together, and encourage one another as they navigate pressure and uncertainty. I believe that the same city known for its architecture and history may one day become known for something greater — a place where hearts awaken to the living God and where true peace begins to flow again like the river that once sustained it.
