Bible Story

Story: Zacchaeus Climbs Down and Meets Jesus
Luke 19:1–10

Fun Memory Method

Act it out! Crouch down for ‘lost’, jump up for ‘save’, and point skyward for ‘Son of Man’!

Today’s Devotional

Imagine being the most unpopular kid in town — everyone knows your name, but NOT in a good way. That was Zacchaeus. He was a tax collector who cheated people out of their money, and everyone knew it. He was also very short, which is why when Jesus came to town, he had to climb a sycamore tree just to see over the crowd.

But here’s the amazing part: Jesus spotted him up in that tree — and called him by name! “Zacchaeus, come down! I’m staying at your house today.” The crowd was shocked. Why would Jesus want to spend time with THAT man?

But that one moment changed everything. Sitting with Jesus, Zacchaeus felt something shift inside him. He stood up and said, “I’ll give half my money to the poor — and if I’ve cheated anyone, I’ll pay them back four times over!” Jesus said: “Salvation has come to this house today!”

Jesus doesn’t wait until we’re perfect to come close. He sees us — even up in our trees — and calls us by name. When we spend time with Jesus, He changes our hearts from the inside out. That’s what a clean heart looks like: letting Jesus in, and letting Him make things right.

Fun Activity

Make a ‘clean heart’ bookmark — draw a heart shape, write inside it one thing you want to ask Jesus to change in you, then decorate it brightly.

Family Challenge!

Is there something you need to put right with someone? As a family, write a sorry note or make a phone call today.

Focus City

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar is the cold and colourful capital of Mongolia, where most people live in round tent-like homes called gers. The church here is young and growing fast, full of people just like Zacchaeus — who met Jesus and were completely transformed. Pray for this brave, joyful young church!

Pray: Lord, change hearts in Ulaanbaatar like You changed Zacchaeus — completely, joyfully, forever.

BIBLE STORY

Zacchaeus

Luke 19:1–10

Justin’s Thoughts

Zacchaeus didn’t have to clean himself up first — Jesus came to him exactly as he was. That’s true for me too, even on my hard days. You don’t need to be perfect for Jesus to love you. Let Him climb into your story today, just like He did with Zacchaeus!
