Story: Young King Josiah Chooses to Follow God’s Word
2 Kings 22–23

Fun Memory Method

Whisper it slowly once, say it normally twice, shout it three times — get louder each time!

Today’s Devotional

Josiah became king when he was just EIGHT years old. Can you imagine? Eight! While most kids his age were playing in the streets, Josiah was responsible for an entire nation. And unlike many kings before him, Josiah chose to follow God with his whole heart.

One day, workers repairing the temple found something incredible — a scroll. It was the Book of God’s Law that had been lost and forgotten for years. When it was read aloud to Josiah, he was so moved that he tore his robes in grief. He realised how far his nation had wandered from God’s ways.

But Josiah didn’t just feel sad and do nothing. He acted. He called everyone together, read God’s Word aloud to the whole nation, and led a massive clean-up — removing all the idols and false altars from the land. He put God first, even when it was hard work.

You might not be a king or queen, but you have something just as powerful: the choice to put God first every day. Maybe that means reading your Bible, or choosing God’s way even when everyone else chooses differently. Like Josiah, you can be young and still make a massive difference when you choose: King First.

Fun Activity

Design your own royal decree — a scroll or certificate that says what you commit to put first in your life. Decorate it like a royal document with a wax seal shape and ribbon!

Family Challenge!

As a family, choose one habit this week that puts God’s Kingdom first — morning prayer, reading scripture together, or serving someone in need.

Focus City

Mecca, Saudi Arabia

Mecca is the holiest city in Islam, in the heart of Saudi Arabia. Millions travel there each year seeking God. Most people there have never heard about Jesus or read His Word. Just like young Josiah discovered a lost scroll, pray that the people of Mecca would discover the truth of God’s Word and the love of Jesus.

Pray: King Jesus, let Your truth and love reach the millions who travel to Mecca seeking You.

Justin’s Thoughts

Josiah was young, but he didn’t let that stop him putting God first. Age doesn’t decide how much you can love and follow Jesus — your heart does. You can lead the way at home, at school, anywhere, starting today!
