Today's Adventure

Daniel refuses the king’s fancy food — and discovers that standing for truth makes you stronger!

Memory Verse

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. (Psalm 119:105)

Story: Daniel Stands Firm and Chooses God’s Way

Fun Memory Method

Shine a torch in a darkened room as you say it together — turn the torch off and say it from memory in the dark!

Today’s Devotional

Daniel was a teenager when his world was turned upside down. He’d been taken from his home in Jerusalem and brought to Babylon, one of the most powerful cities on earth. The king wanted to train him as one of his officials — a great opportunity. But there was a catch.

Daniel was expected to eat the king’s food and drink the king’s wine. And Daniel knew that this food didn’t honour God. So he made a brave decision. He politely but firmly said: “No thank you. Could we eat vegetables and water instead, and see how we look after ten days?”

The official was nervous — but agreed. Ten days later, Daniel and his three friends looked healthier than everyone else in the king’s programme. And God gave Daniel wisdom and understanding beyond anyone around him.

Here’s what’s amazing: Daniel didn’t make a loud fuss. He didn’t shout or rebel. He simply made a quiet, firm choice to honour God — even when it was easier not to. And God honoured him for it.

You face moments like this too. Maybe it’s not about food — maybe it’s about what you watch, how you speak about others, or whether you tell the truth when it would be easier to lie. Following Jesus means choosing truth, even when it costs you something. And when you do, God shows up.

Fun Activity

Hold a family ‘Truth Taste Test’ — try some veggies and water like Daniel! Then write down or draw three ‘truth choices’ you want to make this week.

Family Challenge!

This week, each family member picks one area where they’ll choose truth over the easy option — and tells the family about it next week.

Focus City

Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania

Dar Es Salaam is Tanzania’s vibrant coastal city — a busy port city full of colour, music, and over five million people. Like Daniel in Babylon, Christians here live as a faithful minority, choosing truth and integrity in a city where that can come at a cost. The church here is growing, brave, and shining brightly.

Pray: Father, fill Dar Es Salaam’s young church with courage to stand for truth always.

Justin’s Thoughts

Daniel didn’t shout or make a big scene — he just quietly decided to do what was right. You don’t always need to be loud to follow Jesus well. Sometimes the bravest choices are the quiet ones, made firmly in your heart.
