Jesus told a story about ten young women waiting for a bridegroom to arrive for a big wedding celebration. Five of them were wise — they brought extra oil for their lamps, just in case the wait was long. Five were foolish — they only brought what they needed for a short wait.
The bridegroom was a long time coming. All ten fell asleep. Then, in the middle of the night: “He’s coming! Get up! He’s here!” The ten young women all jumped up and trimmed their lamps. But the five who hadn’t brought extra oil found their lamps going out. “Give us some of yours!” they said. But there wasn’t enough to share.
While they went to buy more oil, the bridegroom arrived — and the door was shut. The wise five went in to the feast. The other five missed it.
Jesus was telling this story about Himself. He is coming back — one day — to gather all His people to the greatest celebration ever. We don’t know when. But we are called to be ready.
Being ready doesn’t mean sitting still doing nothing. It means living every day for Jesus — following Him, loving people, shining your light. Keep your lamp full. Keep following. He is coming!
