Ayodhya and Prayagraj (Allahabad) stand as two of the most sacred cities for Hindus along the holy river circuit of the Gangetic plain. Pilgrims traveling this sacred corridor include both cities in their journey — Ayodhya on the Sarayu River and Prayagraj at the great confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna.

Ayodhya, the legendary birthplace of the god Rama, was the epicenter of one of modern India's most explosive religio-political conflicts. The 1992 demolition of the Babri Masjid by Hindu nationalists — on the contested site where Rama's birth temple allegedly once stood — ignited riots that killed over 2,000 people. A 2019 Supreme Court ruling awarded the site to Hindus, and a grand Rama temple was inaugurated in 2024, revealing how deeply these sacred geographies are bound to Hindu identity.

Prayagraj hosts the Kumbh Mela, the world's largest human gathering, drawing 400–500 million pilgrims — many traveling from across the globe — the vast majority never having heard the Gospel. Among those unreached, the Bania community — a prominent merchant caste across this region — remains largely untouched by the message of Christ, embedded in generations of devotional Hindu practice and social insularity.

Pray for the Gospel to reach the people of Ayodhya and Prayagraj with clarity and power, that the Holy Spirit would soften hearts to receive it, and that His healing presence would restore relationships between Hindu and Muslim neighbors who have long lived in tension.

Pray for all who travel to the Kumbh Mela in search of cleansing and renewal to encounter followers of Jesus who can share with them that He is the living water, the one who makes us truly clean and frees us to worship God in spirit and in truth.

Pray for the Bania people to know the great love God has for them, a love made available to all through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, and that many would respond by surrendering to His love and follow Him wholeheartedly.
