Met 7,7 miljoen inwoners staat het land qua bevolking op de tweede plaats in de Arabische wereld, na Ca\u00efro. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Toen Irak in de jaren zeventig op het hoogtepunt van zijn stabiliteit en economische status was, werd Bagdad door moslims vereerd als het kosmopolitische centrum van de Arabische wereld. Na de afgelopen 50 jaar schijnbaar constante oorlogen en conflicten te hebben doorstaan, voelt dit embleem voor de bevolking als een vervagende herinnering. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tegenwoordig zijn de meeste traditionele christelijke minderheidsgroepen in Irak te vinden in Bagdad, met ongeveer 250.000 mensen.
