Damascus wordt door velen beschouwd als de oudste hoofdstad. stad ter wereld en wordt ook wel de \u2018Parel van het Oosten\u2019 genoemd. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beide steden hebben sinds het begin van de oorlog veel verliezen en achteruitgang geleden.
