I live in Medan — a city alive with movement and color. It’s loud, busy, and full of life: motorbikes racing through crowded streets, the smell of durian filling the air, and a thousand conversations happening at once in different tongues. Medan is a meeting place — Malay, Batak, Chinese, Indian, Javanese — all woven together into one complex, beautiful tapestry. On the same street, you can hear the call to prayer from a mosque, bells from a temple, and hymns from a small church hidden behind shop houses.

Here in North Sumatra, faith shapes daily life. Many in Medan are Muslim, others Hindu, Buddhist, or Christian, and yet beneath our differences, there is a longing for peace, belonging, and truth. I have found that peace in Jesus — but following Him here requires both boldness and humility. Conversations about faith are delicate, and tensions sometimes rise when beliefs clash. Still, the gospel moves quietly, carried through friendships, kindness, and courage.

The people of Medan are strong, passionate, and generous. I believe God has placed this city at a spiritual crossroads for a reason. The same diversity that makes Medan complicated also makes it full of opportunity for the Kingdom. I can see Him stirring hearts — among students, business owners, and entire families — awakening a desire for truth that cannot be silenced. One day, I believe Medan will not only be known for its food and trade but as a city filled with worship, where every tribe and tongue here lifts one voice to Jesus.
