Istana Maimun yang besar dan Masjid Besar oktagon Medan menguasai pusat bandar, menggabungkan gaya Islam dan Eropah. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lokasi bandar ini menjadikannya hab utama perdagangan antarabangsa di barat Indonesia, dengan eksport ke Amerika Utara, Eropah dan Timur Tengah. Sebilangan besar syarikat antarabangsa mengekalkan pejabat di Medan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bandar ini mempunyai 72 universiti, politeknik dan kolej berdaftar, dan ia adalah rumah kepada 2.4 juta orang. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kebanyakan penduduk Medan beragama Islam, menyumbang kira-kira 66% penduduk. Demografi Kristian yang besar (kira-kira 25% daripada jumlah penduduk) termasuk Katolik, Methodist, Lutheran, dan Gereja Protestan Kristian Batak.
