Why we focus on 110 cities

The Bible speaks frequently of cities, and of Jesus weeping over Jerusalem.

Scattered throughout this guide are a number of highlighted cities, which are a sample of the 19 cities in Asia with Hindu-majority populations. If you click on those links, it will take you to the profiles for the city on the 110 Cities site.

The 110 Cities strategic focus has been born from a recognition of a significant global shift towards urbanization and God’s heart for cities.

More than halfof the world’s population lives in urban areas today
Two-thirdsprojected to live in cities by 2050
3 millionpeople move to cities every week

Central to this prayer and missions initiative is Psalm 110:1-3, which provides “marching orders” for the people of God to “volunteer freely” and join in asking God to save the nations. This invitation to labor with Jesus through prayer is rooted in His worthiness.

How the cities were chosen

The selection of the 110 cities is highly strategic, driven by several factors:

The most unreached megacities

These cities contain languages spoken by 97% of the world’s remaining unreached peoples.

Chosen with movement leaders

Selected through consultations with church planting movement leaders, as places strategic for reaching residents and as springboards for movements to spread.

Where movements train and send

These cities are targeted by the largest church planting movements worldwide for training, resourcing, and sending workers.

The least reached people groups

People groups were chosen using language databases and the World Christian Database’s list of 257 groups with the most unevangelized individuals: together, more than 80% of all unevangelized people.

The aim is a city-wide Gospel Kingdom movement: the body of Christ growing faster than the population and impacting the whole city for Christ.

This is an organic phenomenon where the Holy Spirit moves across the entire city. Thank you for joining millions of others in prayer and disciple making among those living in these global cities.
