Auch als Sufismus bekannt, handelte es sich um eine asketische Reaktion auf die zunehmende Weltlichkeit im Islam. Heute befindet sich in Basra die theologische Schule der Mu\u02bftazilah. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die chald\u00e4ische Jungfrau-Maria-Kirche ist die gr\u00f6\u00dfte christliche Gottesdienstst\u00e4tte in Basra und wurde k\u00fcrzlich renoviert. Allerdings gibt es in der Stadt nur sehr wenige Jesus-Anh\u00e4nger. Es wird gesch\u00e4tzt, dass rund 350 Familien der einen oder anderen Form des Christentums angeh\u00f6ren. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die Christen im Irak gelten als eine der \u00e4ltesten christlichen Gemeinschaften der Welt. Doch der Krieg und die Unruhen der letzten 15 Jahre haben viele von ihnen dazu veranlasst, Basra und das Land zu verlassen.
