Dit is &#039;n lewendige, uitgestrekte metropool en meng moderne wolkekrabbers met kanale en geboue uit sy Nederlandse koloniale verlede. Dit het &#039;n bloeiende Chinatown en &#039;n Arabiese wijk waarvan die Ampel-moskee uit die 15de eeu dateer. Al-Akbar-moskee, een van die grootste moskees ter w\u00eareld, is ook in Surabaya. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surabaya is die tweede grootste stad in Indonesi\u00eb en het &#039;n bevolking van drie miljoen. Dit staan ook bekend as die \u201cstad van helde\u201d vir die stryd op 30 Oktober 1945, wat die land se stryd om onafhanklikheid aangewakker het. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die stad is 85% Moslem, met Protestantse en Katolieke aanhangers wat saam 13% van die bevolking uitmaak. Nuwe wette verhinder nou Christene om te bou, wat gelei het tot die vernietiging van kerke en ander geboue in Christelike besit.
