Why Do We Pray for the Jewish People?

“I will bless those who bless you… and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” — Genesis 12:3

All through this guide, alongside praying for cities and nations, we also pray for the Jewish people. Here’s why they are so special to God — and to us!

They are God’s First Chosen Family

A long time ago, God chose a man named Abraham and promised to build a great family through him — the Jewish people. God said He would bless Abraham’s family, and that through them, He would bless every nation on earth!

Jesus Was Jewish

Jesus — the Saviour of the whole world — was born Jewish, in the Jewish town of Bethlehem, to a Jewish family. He grew up reading the Hebrew Scriptures, celebrating Jewish festivals, and teaching in Jewish synagogues. When we love Jesus, we are loving someone from this remarkable family!

God’s Promises Still Stand

The Bible tells us that God’s gifts and His calling can never be taken back (Romans 11:29). God still loves the Jewish people deeply, and He has promised that one day, “all Israel will be saved” (Romans 11:26) — meaning many Jewish people will recognise Jesus as their Messiah.

We Pray Because We Love Them

Just like we pray for children in cities who have never heard about Jesus, we also pray for our Jewish friends around the world — in Israel and in every nation — that they would come to
know Jesus, the Messiah who loves them
and gave His life for them.
